Privacy & GDPR
This website is owned and operated by Claritax Books Ltd, the “Data Controller” for the purposes of the Data Protection Act 1998.
As a key principle, we never store bank or similar details for any of our customers. Payment for books on our website is made through SagePay. If you order by phone, we take card details for making payment, but these are not then retained by us either electronically or in any other form.
The following privacy policies are operated by us. If we change our policy we will amend this page accordingly.
What we may do
We may use information you provide to us:
- to fulfil any orders you place with us (which will involve sharing your order and address details with our book distributors, Wildy & Sons Ltd – a legal bookshop in London);
- to process any request for advice or information supplied by us;
- to notify you of our products, unless you ask us not to;
- to comply with our statutory and regulatory obligations.
We may collect information about you as follows:
- your name, address, email address and telephone number;
- your occupation and title;
- details of any books that you have bought from us.
We may store any such information electronically and / or in paper format. All personal information is held securely to prevent unauthorised disclosure or access.
We may appoint an Internet service provider (ISP) to host our website and this ISP may be situated outside the European Economic Area. By agreeing to our terms and conditions of use of our site you consent to the transfer of your personal information outside the European Economic Area.
We may use technology (e.g. Google Analytics) to gather information about users and usage of this site so as to identify areas where we can improve the site for the benefit of its users. Such information will not be used to identify any individual.
What we will not do
We will not collect sensitive personal information about you.
We will not disclose any personal information about you except to our legal or other professional advisers for the genuine and legitimate purposes of our business (including in particular necessary details to our book distributors), under legal compulsion or to comply with an instruction of a competent jurisdiction.
We will not sell or lease any personal information about you to any third party.
We will not store debit or credit card details or share such details with any third party except that we use SagePay to process payments made to us.
GDPR compliance
We may contact you, as a former customer, to notify you by email of new editions of books you have bought from us in the past or occasionally of other titles that we believe may be of interest to you.
We will not send you any further emails of a marketing nature if you unsubscribe from them, and we will provide a clear and simple unsubscribe option on any emails we send.
We may send you, as a former customer, our printed catalogues up to three times each year, and may write to you on up to four further occasions in the course of any calendar year (not including occasions on which we send you books you have ordered).
We will remove your contact details from our database if you request us to do so (for example, if you retire).
Corrections
We aim to comply fully with all requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998 and of the General Data Protection Regulations.
